read and watch if you have problems. – this is my third hitch rack purchased in 3wks – trying to find the perfect fit. I think i’ve found my match. I’ll update with pics, and after i’ve ridden with the bike on it. But i HAD to say something NOW. UPFRONT – if your rack is wobbling in your hitch, its more than likely because you have not taken the time to really read the instructions on how to tighten it. I’ve seen reviews where people say the key spins and spins, as does the hand grip. or they’ve videotaped the hitch and them wiggling it back and forth and up and down. i too thought something was wrong. i inserted the bar ( and thought) i turned the key, and then attempted to “tighten” the knob… severe wobble!! I was ready to send it back!

UPDATED REVIEW (11/22) Initially good, but after 2 years, issues with the design. Support helped! – UPDATE: I’m. leaving my original post below for reference. The update is that after a few emails back and forth with pics and then a video with customer support, I was able to get replacement “red squishy clips” (aka “the cradle” from Allen) with the strap. I popped them on in 5-minutes and it has made a big difference. Since the tips of the black strap are firmer and the springs are a bit more flexible, it’s so much easier to strap on the bikes.

Works great! – I’ve had my bicycle for years and haven’t ridden it much since it’s not that much fun to ride in the neighborhood. I was considering selling it, but thought if I got a rack I could ride it in some local paved nature trails and combine birding with it. I purchased the Allen bike rack and am so happy I did.

– I purchased this rack because of the easy insert and locking mechanism into the hitch. At the first insert the spring pop-out pin did not pop out into the hole in the hitch but stuck in the 2” adapter. There is clearly a design and/or manufacturing issue with this product. I immediately contacted Allen with an explanation and photo of the problem. After several emails they offered a replacement 2” adapter but insisted I pay the US $30 shipping cost. This left me more than disappointed since I was showing them an inherent problem with their product. I dismantled the adapter myself and used a file to enlarge the hole. I suggest you purchase a rack from another company, preferably Canadian.

– i really wanted something i could take on and off quickly and i noticed many of these required you to have a ratchet handy… I wasn’t sure how this one would work but i’ve used it a few times now and the system works quite well to hand tighten the wheel to secure the rack into the hitch. Unit seems quite solid as well. Only things to keep in mind is that the ‘locking’ mechanism only locks the rack, not the bike so you’d need to buy a cable if you need to lock the bike too. Also, the pictures showed blue but they shipped black – that was fine with me but you should know it’s not blue (which I thought would have been cool but oh well)
